Do I need a rental car?

There are so many unique and beautiful places to discover in the area both by foot and by car. The rental company will meet you at the airport in the arrival hall and the car will be just outside. Do not exceed the speed limit, there are cameras in many places.

There is a daily round trip bus from Periana to Malaga Transporte - Ayuntamiento de Periana

Periana village has all you need when it comes to amenities so maybe you don´t need a car, in that case you can take a taxi to and from the airport. It will cost you around 80 Euro one way.

Where is the nearest airport?

Cortijo Orea is situated 60 km from Malaga Airport. It will take you around one hour. You can either drive on A-7 along the coast and head towards the Viñuela valley or take the more picturesque tour via A-45.

Who will meet me at Cortijo Orea when I arrive?

Our host Palmira, she is Spanish and speaks fluently English.

What kind of weather can I expect?

Periana is situated 550 meters over sea level, under the lee of Sierra Cabrero. The proximity to the sea gives it a mild winter climate with temperatures around 15 – 20 degrees in the days and down to 10 degrees during the night. The restaurants have their outside seating areas open all year round. In the summer the day temperature is around 30-35 degrees and dry with nigh temperature around 18-20.  It´s seldom humid as it is at the coast, it´s also less windy. In the wintertime it is wise to bring some warmer clothes for the evenings. Periana, and Cortijo Orea is facing south so you can enjoy the sun all day and you will experience the most beautiful sunset behind the mountains in the distance.

What kind of food can I find in the village?

There are lots of restaurants in the village and nearby more rural ones. You can get a lot of different variations - tapas, Spanish dishes, pizza, etc. There are several shops where you can get all kind of food, fresh fish, a bakery, fresh fruits and vegetables and all to lower cost than at the coast. On the way from the coast to Periana you can also find the English shop Arkwrights. Periana and nearby Mondron is famous for its superb quality of olive oil. The shops are mainly open between 9-14 and 17.30-20.30. If you want to go to a rural restaurant, we can recommend El Cañuelo above Periana, El Caserón in Guaro, Gerardo outside Mondron, Cantueso, just outside Periana.
